This is a great guide for creating a cozy backyard patio! I especially love the idea of using an outdoor rug to add warmth and define the space.
While the post focuses on furniture and accessories, I’m curious about the patio base itself. Is the patio made of concrete, stone, or another material? Choosing the right material seems like an important part of creating an inviting outdoor space.
Orientation: Wood slats can be installed horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, depending on the desired look and the dimensions of the space. Horizontal slat walls tend to create a more modern and streamlined look, while vertical slat walls can make a room appear taller and more spacious.
I rent, and got a new unit about 3 years ago. It has always had issues with reaching the target temp and not stopping. Last year, I got a new thermostat. Things got better. This year, it’s back to not turning off when it reaches the target temp, if it even gets to the target temp. Maintenance guy said it had a leak, but didn’t fix it. He asked me to monitor it for a few days, and let him know if I notice any changes. I had someone else out (emergency maintenance) who said it was cooling (inside temp from the vent registered 67 degrees and thermostat said 80), and to let it run for a minimum four hours to reach the target temp. It ran for over 5-6 hours and only went down 2 degrees, which was 5 degrees from the target temp. Started at 80 and went to 78 and stayed there. I have changed the batteries in the thermostat, replaced the filter, cleaned the coils, and added freon. It’s still running constantly, and not going to the target temp. I had it on for 3-4 hours today, and it only went down one degree. Two out of three people in my house have asthma. I kinda need it to work. I have asked for the landlord to fix it, but in the past she kept telling me that it just takes awhile to get to the target temp. There has to be something else going on, but I just don’t know what it could be. I put in my second work order in two weeks, so we’ll see if they respond. I don’t have the resources to file a complaint, b/c I don’t want to run the risk of being asked to leave. Not saying she would do that b/c we’ve been here since 2009. I just don’t know what else could be causing my issues. Any help appreciated. I wish there was a help line where you could ask a licensed HVAC person questions for free!

I loved using your instructions! Made a beautiful mud kitchen for my sons! However, some of your measurements are wrong. The 3 42” boards for the back splash should be 48” so they line up with the rest of the table. The 3 42” for the bottom shelf is also not the correct measurement. It needs to be closer to 40” and 4 boards like you used not three. Otherwise I really enjoyed this project and appreciate the work you put into making these instructions.
I’m confused on why the backsplash length is 6 inches shorter than the table top length. I just got to that part and didn’t realize it till now. In your picture the backsplash matches the length of the table top.

This looks amazing!!!!!
After filling the gap from your cut in the horizontal shelving across the top , how did you match the color of the shelving so you didn’t see the seam? Did you have to repaint the entire upper built in? (Along with the crown molding at the top)

This is the best mud kitchen! Can I ask what color paint you used?
Hana
It was a green paint from a local hardware store. I don’t think you’d be able to find the match.

Thank you for sharing this idea. I have one question, how this pergola support windy days? Is it strong enough?
Hana
Yes it is! I live in Toronto (Canada) and it has withstood 2 winters!

This is a wooden outdoor deck which makes it easy to attach the pergola to.

I wish I could help you! I also feel like I don’t know much about it. This sounds to be that the landlord should address the issue though.

Hi Hana. This sub great design!
One thing to check in your cut list: the backsplash boards should be the same length as the tabletop: 48 inches
