The 2024 paint color trends are more than just a selection of shades; they are colors that represent how we feel, our desires, and aspirations. This year’s color trends invite us to explore a spectrum that transcends conventional boundaries.
Painting your room or furniture is an easy and inexpensive way to transform your space. Every year the biggest paint companies predict the 2024 paint color trends. In this guide, you’ll share their best picks, and mine as an interior designer in DIYer.
Blue Paint Colors are the Biggest Emerging Trend
Both Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Wiliams, the 2 best paint companies in the world, announced the 2024 color of the year. They both went with blues but on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Benjamin Moore chose Blue Nova as their 2024 Color of the Year. I used this color in my mom’s guest room makeover. I love Blue Nova because it has really beautiful purple and red undertones. This gives it warmth, but it’s a traditional color that is a midtone blue. It balances the depth in space without looking too bright or to purple.

Sherwin-Wiliams color of the year 2024 is Upward. This is a soft blue that has a lot of gray undertones. It really gives that feeling of tranquility and calmness. This is a beautiful blue color for an office, kitchen cabinets, or even a wall with picture frame molding.
Burgundy for Beautiful Classic Tones

There has recently been a surge of interior designers using burgundy. Burgundy is a color that looks fantastic when balanced with neutrals like black, white. Ryia used burgundy in her bathroom makeover. This bathroom has a traditional design with the penny tiles and bead board.

Elisha designed her whole space in the primary bedroom around these burgundy walls with panel moulding and a DIY coffered ceiling. The way she drenched the primary suite in this color is stunning. It is so moody
Chocolate Browns to Create Inviting Spaces

If you thought you were done with chocolate browns from the early 2000s, think again. There is a huge return to chocolate browns. Chocolate brown looks sophisticated and warm. If using this color, take the paint from the wall to the ceiling. You’ll see a lot of designers using rich colors from the wall to the ceiling so that a stark white ceiling doesn’t break up the richness of the room.

If you find chocolate brown to be a bit too dark, opt for a mid town brown. It still gives lots of depth, but makes the space a bit brighter
Creams Will be Classic

Creams will continue to be classic in 2024. A lot of high end transitional kitchens use a cream paint as their cabinet color. See this blog post for the full breakdown on the best creamy cabinet colors.

Cream is a really great color if you’re uncertain on how to use color in any space. This cream could look beautiful in a bedroom, bathroom or living room like I did in my mom‘s living room makeover.
Greens Bring Warmth to Any Space

Greens have been trending for the last few years. Instead of midtone greens, we’re seeing a lot more development and interest in dark greens that have rich gray or brown undertones. I added this color in my bathroom and it almost acts as a neutral.

Muted greens are a beautiful alternative to creams if you want that transitional modern look. Find a green paint without yellow undertones. These greens also played really well in spaces that don’t have natural light because they are not too dark.
Not your Typical Grey Paint

If you’re wondering whether grey paint is still in style, grey’s were all the rage 10 years ago. But now, grey is a sign of a dated space. 2024 Paint color trends see greys with green undertones very popular. Erin designed her mudroom with this muddy grey-green and it’s stunning!
Limewash Your Walls for Drama and Texture!

Limewashing walls is popular paint technique that looks historic and dreamy. It’s a technique that usually involves mixing crushed stone. It actually adds texture to your walls! To achieve this look, you can purchase a limewashing kit.

However, you can achieve a limewash look with paint using different tones of paint and a large brush and blending them together.
Use Peach and Blush Paint to Liven up a Space!

Although not a typical choice, Peach Fuzz has been declared the Pantone color of the year. This color radiates warmth and fun. This is a beautiful color to use as an accent in a nursery, a kids room, or a lounge space. It has a bit of brightness that brings energy into the space.
I love the use of this color. It makes the space feel so energized! I would use it as an accent color for a mural, rug or textiles.

Peach might be too bright for the walls in your home, but think of a more muted tone. I used Redend Point by Sherwin-Williams in this small entryway. This color reminds me a peach / blush tone. It’s the perfect welcoming tone for a home!
Modern Black Paint for Moody Rooms
Modern blacks have been popular for the last few years and I don’t think they are going anywhere. Behr released Cracked Pepper as their color of the year 2024.

Other black paint colors that have been really popular are Urban Bronze by Sherwin-Williams which was their 2022 color of the year. I’ve used this color on quite a few DIY doors in my house and I love that it’s a deep black, but has a little brown/grey which brings softness to it. If you’re looking for an entire guide on black paint colors, I pulled one together.

If you’re looking for a cool black with a blue undertone, I love Cyberspace by Sherwin Williams. I used it in this living room makeover with a DIY slat wall. It’s the right color if you don’t want the dark to be too modern.
